Problem
Artist wanted sculptures that react to visitors—folding (fear) when approached, slowly unfolding when alone. Mechanism hidden inside.
Solution
Designed scored polypropylene shells with lead screw actuation. Rigid rod pushes/pulls top; fishing lines guide fold pattern. Ultrasonic sensors, TMC2209 for near-silent operation. Full spec and BOM (~$266).
Outcome
Complete project specification, firmware, and assembly guide. 13-day build timeline. Artist builds shell, engineer hides mechanism.
