Large-scale kinetic art installation: paper insects drop from ceiling-mounted rotating arms when triggered. Arduino-controlled, gravity-driven attack.

Problem

Artist wanted a swarm of paper insects to dramatically drop from the ceiling toward visitors—emotionally driven, buildable, low-cost.

Solution

Designed 3–4 motorized arms on ceiling, each with ~3,000 paper insects on monofilament. Pulley system amplifies motion. Gravity-driven fast attack, motor-driven slow retract. BOM and assembly guide documented.

Outcome

Complete technical spec, BOM (~€75–110 per machine), and Arduino firmware. Ready for build.
